What Tells Us Homedecor About The People? PDF Print E-mail

Visiting a new home for the first time, we are typically drawn to notice the type of home decor they have, and that can tell us a lot about them as individuals. Overall character that we possess, and our likes and dislikes can be shown through a careful examination of the decoration that we use in the rooms of our home. There is the instance in which we design our kitchen storage to appease the practical sides of our character. A lounge area painted in neutral, natural colors would give similar insight into someone who likes to relax after a long day of hard work.

Satin sheets and a red color theme in a bedroom will also give insights into a character, though likely a side that few people will see. That's a good tip for determining the decor for our homes - have different plans for public versus private areas. A family throwing a party, in all likelihood, will attempt to keep certain areas of the house off limits due to their private nature.

It is true that bedrooms are the type of area that is not going to be seen by too many people, and therefore, the home owner typically wants to dedicate a good deal of extravagance on the areas in question. Flooring is a popular part of any decor, and the type you choose will depend on how highly trafficked the area is. Your personality will show through in the color and quality of the flooring in each room. Carpets, particularly those that are for the bedroom, look and feel nice in wool, though if you are putting flooring in a hallway or otherwise well traveled area, you are better off choosing something like a hard wearing laminate.

Choosing the right accessories in your decor will, of course, give a clue to your personality. Another important part of decorating is lighting, and it can make a big difference in how each room is seen. Highlighting certain areas, through the use of a spotlight, can be either practical or purely for an aesthetic purpose. In addition, you might wish to use this method to take care of decorating the rest of your home.

If you like to highlight objects and possessions that matter to you, spotlights and single light fittings can do this very well. Mood lighting may fit the needs of a minimalist decorator better, however. Remember, when you are choosing the decor for your dwelling, you are giving a great insight into your mind and character to the outside world, so pick carefully!
